New Month + New Partnerships

Image
Happy August!  Is it just me, or does it seem crazy that we are already in August? The year is flying by!  As we transition into a new month, I have some new and exciting things to announce. I've partnered with The Cozy Haven to bring my beginner level yoga classes to Ankeny. The Cozy Haven is an event space perfect for small gatherings like bridal showers or graduation events. We're pretty excited to partner up and start offering yoga classes in the space as well! I just love the chandelier at The Cozy Haven! Our first event will be Wednesday, August 31st at 6 p.m. We have  big  ideas for the space - but for now we'll be hosting a simple and beginner friendly yoga flow. The cost will be $15 per person. Space is limited, so email me at yogawithkayw@gmail.com to secure your spot while you can! This is a BYOM event - bring your own mat (and your smiling face), and we will take care of the rest. Not sure what to expect in a beginner level yoga flow? Check out my blog po...

What To Expect in A Beginner Flow Class

Image
Welcome!  If you don't know this already, I've started teaching beginner level flows at Yoga & Co. in Des Moines. When you sign up for one of my classes, you'll see a description that looks something like this: This beginner level class will work to improve strength, balance and flexibility by introducing foundational yoga poses matched with a focus on the breath. This class is great for those who are new to yoga; or those who are looking for a peaceful class to connect the mind and body. Classes are forty five minutes to an hour long, and may be accompanied with a brief meditation.   But what does that mean, exactly? That's what this blog post is all about. Keep reading below to learn more about what the class includes and what you can expect if you decide to attend.  Photo by Louise Vildmark on Unsplash The structure for a beginner level class is as follows... Class begins with the instructor and students seated on their mats. Typically, the instructor faces the ...

Venmo is Now A Payment Option! Hooray!

Image
Hello, Friends! Short update here... I finally have Venmo!  I firmly believe that Yoga should be accessible to everyone - that's why all of my classes at Yoga & Co. are a pay what feels good  model. Just like Yoga & Co's website says... No memberships, and no B.S. That's why I set out to become a "real" small business and have Venmo as an option for my classes. I'm excited to announce that as of July 15th, Yoga With Kay's Venmo account is up and running.  I will still have a cash box at all of the flows in case you prefer to pay the old fashioned way. But my hope is that by offering Venmo as an option as well, paying for a flow can be a little bit easier and safer for all of us. My Venmo name is easy to remember - @YogaWithKay. Typically people pay anywhere from $10 to $20 per class, or $60 to $80 if they decide to pay for classes monthly. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to comment below or email me at yogawithkayw@gmail.com S...

The Details Behind My New Logo

Image
Happy Hump Day! It's no joke, starting a small business or a side gig is a lot of work. I've been pretty busy lately trying to learn the in's and out's of what it takes to become an "official" small business and hit the ground running. So far, Yoga With Kay has registered with the state of Iowa to become a Limited Liability Corporation, or LLC for short. This would allow me to finally  accept Venmo as a form of payment, instead of being cash only. I've also finalized some marketing materials and the new logo with DesignCrowd, which is what you see in the photo above. There's a lot of symbolism to unpack in the logo, so I wanted to write a post to introduce it to my friends and explain it. Here goes! The Lotus: The lotus flower is everywhere in the world of yoga. I mean, everywhere.  Not only is their natural symmetry aesthetically pleasing, the way the lotus flower grows provides some additional inspiration. Lotus flowers are able to blossom in even th...

Big Changes Coming July 1st

Image
Happy Tuesday! For those of you who don't know, I've started teaching Beginner Level Flows at Yoga & Co. in Des Moines. I wanted to announce some exciting new changes that are taking place in the studio starting July 1st. In the past, classes were completely donation-based and attendees donated via cash or Venmo each time they attended a class. Instead of paying Yoga & Co., students will now be paying their instructors per class. The studio is moving to an all-rental basis, meaning us instructors are "renting" the studio for our classes and workshops. This means more local instructors for students to connect with and provides a more diverse selection of flows! It's a win-win! The process for signing up is still the same. To attend a class, please register ahead of time by visiting yogaandcodsm.com . When you reach the website, select "Classes" and then "Book Class." Unless otherwise noted, all of the classes we will take together are ...

My Yoga Teacher Training Journey

Image
Eek- My First Blog Post! Wow! There are so many firsts happening in the month of June. My first yoga class, my first blog post. I was reflecting on how I got here earlier and wanted to write a post specifically about that journey. If you're reading this, by now you know that I've decided to dive feet-first into the world of instructing yoga to others and sharing the benefits of a regular practice to anyone who cares to listen. And by regular I mean as often as I can make time for my practice in this busy world. See, that's the beauty of yoga. It's not about rigidity or hitting the "perfect," Instagram-worthy pose. It's not about showing up to the mat with a militant approach to doing it the "right" way. Yoga is about showing up for yourself, listening to your body's needs and being in tune with your mind, body and breath. And  that , my friends is what inspired be to become a yoga teacher. Don't mind me, just documenting my first ever cla...
